A simple example
One payment. A clear balance.
- Rent due
- ₹25,000
- Recorded payment
- ₹20,000
- Still outstanding
- ₹5,000
The renter stays marked as partially paid. Review a reminder for the remaining ₹5,000 before opening it in WhatsApp.
Guide
Keep the rent due, the money received and the balance in the same record.

A partial payment is money received against only part of the rent due. If rent is ₹25,000 and the renter pays ₹20,000, record a ₹20,000 payment and keep ₹5,000 outstanding. Do not reduce the original rent charge to make it look paid.
A simple example
The renter stays marked as partially paid. Review a reminder for the remaining ₹5,000 before opening it in WhatsApp.
Identify the renter, unit, rental period, amount and due date. In this example, the charge is ₹25,000. These are sample figures, not a real customer account.
Record the ₹20,000 received, its date and the payment method against that charge. For a bank transfer or UPI payment, check the bank record. For cash, keep the receipt or acknowledgement with your records.
The calculation is ₹25,000 minus ₹20,000, leaving ₹5,000. The renter is partially paid, not fully paid. When the remaining ₹5,000 arrives, record a second payment against the same charge. Do not enter another ₹25,000 payment.
A clear reminder identifies the unit, the period and the remaining balance. Door-Let can draft a reminder for review; you decide whether to open it in WhatsApp and send it.
A difference between rent due and cash received does not always mean late payment. Check for a recorded adjustment or tax withheld before treating the balance as unpaid. This example assumes neither applies and does not determine anyone’s tax obligations.
